Amazing comfortable lodge, fully equipped to a very high standard. Second time staying at Butterwell farm estate, peace, quiet with only the sound of the camel river within a 100 yards from the lodges covered veranda and the sound of birds...

Set above the River Camel with stunning valley views, it’s perfect for couples seeking nature, comfort and seclusion. Walk to a pub, tea garden or vineyard, or cycle the Camel Trail to Padstow. Just 20 minutes from both coasts—escape, unwind, and soak up Cornwall at its finest. @butterwellfarm Kingfisher Cabin is a characterful one bedroom woodland hideaway, perched on the banks of the River Camel. From its elevated position, soak up panoramic views across the Camel Valley and the renowned Camel Valley Vineyard — an ever-changing landscape of light, colour, and movement. Tucked away in a wonderfully peaceful and private spot, this timber retreat feels worlds away from the everyday. Step out onto the double-aspect balcony, an idyllic sun trap where morning coffee and golden sunsets are equally at home. The wrap around balcony is the perfect spot to sit back and immerse yourself in nature – spot rare birdlife, deer grazing in the trees and even kingfisher dart up the river. The private enclosed garden invites alfresco dining with a picnic table, BBQ, and fire pit, ideal for starlit evenings by the flames, accompanied by the gentle hush of the river and the hoot of owls in the trees. Inside, the open-plan living area is light-filled and generous, featuring French doors on one side and large bi-fold doors on the other that seamlessly connect you to the outdoors. The cosy lounge is made for relaxing, with a log burner and well-stocked log store and smart TV with streaming apps. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for a self-catered stay—oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine. The bedroom features a comfortable super king size bed (convertible to twins if preferred), and the bathroom includes a shower-over-bath, underfloor heating, and a heated towel rail for year-round comfort.

Neighbourhood information

Butterwell Farm is a 40-acre haven for nature lovers, tucked within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The estate is rich in wildlife, and it’s not uncommon to spot our resident kingfishers darting along the riverbank, roe deer in the woodland, woodpecker in the trees, and otters emerging at dusk. In spring, the woods come alive with a blanket of bluebells and the scent of wild garlic. Don’t be surprised if our small flock of Jacob sheep wanders by your garden gate during your stay! Our location is ideal for exploring Cornwall. From sandy beaches and the dramatic South West Coast Path to the wild beauty of Bodmin Moor, you’ll find countless adventures nearby. Our part of Cornwall is not only a walker’s paradise—but it’s also perfect for cyclists. With direct access to the Camel Trail, you can ride to Wadebridge (4 miles) or Padstow (9 miles), or venture into the nearby forestry trails for more off-road adventure. Just a short stroll across the river is the award-winning Camel Valley Vineyard, where you can enjoy tours, tastings, or simply a glass of their famous English fizz while soaking in the views. “I have visited Cornwall many times over the years and have not stayed in such a peaceful spot before. The location and views are wonderful – it is totally peaceful – the only sounds are the birds and the river…” “The surrounding land is a paradise. Privately owned by Butterwell, we walked for hours and encountered only wildlife…” “Location is stunning and a great base to explore all of the delights that Cornwall has to offer. We are going to miss waking up to the deer, sheep, cows, birds and all the other wildlife at Butterwell Farm!…”
