Set in the heart of Moffat, Kirkview House makes a comfortable and charming stop-over. Forming the major part of a renovated 18th century rural townhouse, Kirkview has romantic connections with the poet Robert Burns. Our handsome guest suite has spectacular views over the picturesque church and village to the surrounding hills and, often enough, particularly lovely sunsets. Situated on a private top floor, the suite comprises an impressively furnished bedroom with John Lewis Egyptian cotton bed linen plus a spacious private bathroom with shower and bath.
Please Note: Top floor accommodation (3rd floor) Stair only access. We have storage for bicycles. However, due to the inherent fire risk, our insurance does not allow electric bikes indoors nor do we allow charging of the batteries. We are Insured for only 2 adult guests. Unexpected pets and extra guests, including children, will not be accommodated. Our front door is 2nd on the right - big green door - through the big stone archway on Churchgate, approximately 30 yrds from The Black Bull Inn, on the main A701 road through Moffat.
Please note, we do not provide fried breakfasts. We like to think that our breakfast options of Granola, Alpen, porridge or other cereals followed by scrambled or poached eggs on toasted sourdough with marinated or smoked mackerel or smoked salmon, and Parma ham accompanied with sauted mushrooms and tomatoes plus fair trade pressed fruit juice and fair trade coffee, toast and preserves will set you up for the day. If you suffer severe food intolerances we are happy for you to check packaging for ingredients or breakfast on your own provisions in our charmingly modest kitchen with coffee etc laid on.
Originally a genteel little spa town, Moffat has developed over the centuries into a charmingly modest yet day-to-day working county village/town. Blessed with fine speciality shops, nonetheless it has managed to retain traditional family owned shops and businesses such as independent hardware stores, a craft butcher's shop and a picturesque working blacksmith's smiddy in the centre of town. For walkers on a tight schedule, there are several fairly short riverside walks. For the more adventurous, well marked local country walks take you around the village and onto the surrounding hills. For the more strenuous, we have several young pairs of Golden Eagles nesting in the Moffat hills. The famously scenic Moffat Beeftub route to Edinburgh and or the sublimel St Mary's Loch run makes for a glorious day's motoring, biking or touring by bicycle. Nearby, the Grey Mare’s Tail nature reserve with its waterfalls leading up to Loch Skeen is a spectacular place to visit at any time of year.
