Blue Thistle House and Little Thistle Apartment were built over 2020 and 2021, realising the dream of Neil and Sue (your hosts) to live in their favourite part of the world. It was built the highest standards, but also with minimising any environmental impact in mind. The building is extremely well insulated, and heating is provided by an air source heat pump. The water supply comes from our own private borehole which is excellent for drinking.
The property is rural with mountain views and walks directly from the property, with the South Loch Ness trail being only a few hundred metres from the property.
Taking daily walks to Loch Knockie which is a 20 minutes woodland walk, so peaceful, where only the sound of birds, wind in the trees and water lapping on the rocks can be heard.
Neil takes a great interest in motor vehicles which includes cars, motorbikes and boats, and the scenic roads and lochs around the Highlands are the ideal place to play, explore and ride. Sue on the otherhand prefers a more peaceful life in the Highlands, wild swimming in the many lochs, however rides a Vespa to also enjoy the winding roads and mountain views that are on the doorstep.
The property is located in the rural village of Whitebridge, where the local pub The Whitebridge Hotel is a 3 minute drive (or 30 minute walk) from the property, servicing great homemade food and a wide variety of whiskeys plus locally brewed beer among other hot and cold beverages.
Fort Augustus is a 15 minute drive away where you can take a boat trip on Loch Ness, visit one of the many gift shops and have lunch by the Caledonian canal.
Falls of Foyers is also only a 15 minute drive, where there is a nice woodland walk down to the waterfall. There is also a circular walk from Upper Foyers (Falls of Foyers) down to Loch Ness (Lower Foyers).
Inverness is 23 miles away (approx. 40 minute drive) with routes taking you along the banks of Loch Ness or you can take the upper road through the villages of Gorthleck, Errogie and dropping down into Dores where there are great spanning views of Loch Ness. Inverness has a vast array of great restaurants and bars, as well as a good selection of shops, especially outdoor clothing shops and gift shops.
Aviemore is the local skiing resort which is approx. 1 hour from the property, lovely woodland cycle routes and Loch Morlich beach.
