The Old Smithy sits in the picturesque village of Upton Cheyney on The Cotswold Way, close to Bath and Bristol.
Enjoy beautiful local walks on the many footpaths, and a super meal at the Upton Inn just up the road. Bath and Bristol are both 20 mins drive away and there's a handy park and ride for Bath 2 miles up the road.
I'm a self employed architect, keen on sustainable modern design and lovely old buildings. After a long search for a little home, I came across The Old Smithy tucked away in a village I'd never heard of called Upton Cheyney. I couldn't;t believe it as I dropped down from Lansdown Hill, Bath, I was suddenly in deep countryside with winding roads and lanes, with horses outnumbering cars. The Smithy had been saved, rebuilt and restored lovingly by it"s previous owner who used it as her art studio. Not only was she a talented artist but also had a great eye for design and extremely green fingers (The woodland/jungle garden is rather special). In short the place, along with the village community, was perfect and after a nail biting auction I found myself the happy new owner.
Renting The Smithy out during the summer months allows me to work for an animal charity in Greece. I also dog sit near Bath and will be on hand during that time. There'll always be someone nearby to help with any queries.
Upton Cheyney sits on the edge of the Cotswolds, it's a perfect base for walkers and nature lovers to visit and explore local attractions and country walks including the Upton Cheyney-Lansdowne circular.
The village benefits from a super local pub, The Upton Inn, serving great food. And Manor Farm hosts weddings, art exhibitions and yoga retreats as well as being a working farm. There's also an award winning chilli farm.
The village has good sense of community and the neighbourhood deer and other wildlife are always welcome visitors to the garden.
