Poplar Lodge is a cosy self-catering cabin, nestled on a wooded hillside with spectacular views over the Dee Valley.
The lodge is ideal for a couple or family with one child and features a double bed with optional fold-out single. Its well-appointed kitchenette boasts a fridge, sink, microwave, kettle, toaster and electric hobs, along with all the cooking equipment you need to fix up a small feast at the end of a day out exploring. Your private shower room is just a short hop across the gravel driveway.
Spend your evenings relaxing in the secluded garden with a glass of wine, listening to our resident owls as the sun sets over the hills. After dark, enjoy our breathtakingly dark skies from the decking, accompanied by the sound of babbling brooks and the wind in the trees – and the occasional sheep bleating in the nearby fields.
A travel cot and high chair are available on request – please contact us after booking to request this. Please note that, for bookings of one or two people, the single bed will not be made up for guests unless specifically requested. Please contact us directly if you would like the fold-out single bed made up for your arrival.
Welcome to Dee Valley Stays! We are a family business and moved here at the beginning of 2022 after falling in love with the spectacular countryside and the friendly local community. We live here with our two children, three dogs, goat, geese and ducks, as well as our flock of faithful rescue hens who kindly give us – and you – fresh eggs every day. If you would like to meet our animals, please let us know and we will be happy to arrange this for you!
We feel extraordinarily lucky to have our own corner of Welsh heaven and can't wait to welcome you here!
Located in the heart of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our two lodges are the perfect base for an active getaway. There are spectacular walks on your doorstep, with the Dee Valley Way and the North Berwyn Way passing close by. There are also countless heritage trails and historic (and prehistoric) monuments in the surrounding area, as well as popular mountain biking routes.
Cynwyd is a small rural village with a local shop and post office, along with a local dog-friendly pub serving good pub grub. Corwen is just five minutes by car, with lots more shops – including a butchers, bakery and chemist, as well as several takeaway options and cafes. Half an hour in the car will get you to Llangollen, Ruthin and the ever-popular Betws-y-Coed, while Lake Bala is even closer, boasting beautiful walks along the lakeside and a wide range of watersports – including at the National White Water Rafting Centre. Lake Bala – home to the National White Water Rafting Centre and boasting beautiful walks around the lake – is closer still. Those with a passion for steam trains can enjoy a day out on the narrow-gauge railway around Lake Bala or take a trip on the heritage line from Corwen station – newly reopened in June 2023 – along the beautiful Dee Valley and into Llangollen. The stunning peaks of Snowdonia are within touching distance, too, and the popular coastal towns of Llandudno, Conwy and Rhyl are roughly an hour's drive to the north, whilst Barmouth, Harlech, Porthmadog and Portmeirion on the west coast are also about an hour's travel. Anyone wanting some more serious shopping or a day out in the city has plenty of options, too, with historic Chester just fifty minutes' drive away and Liverpool just over an hour away.
