We are Caroline and Miles, who make up the entire team at Queensberry House.
Seven years ago, we left the big city of London for the small town of Moffat to take over Queensberry House. And we haven’t looked back. Caroline was a travel journalist in a previous life and spent time reviewing hotels around the globe so she’s picked up a few useful tips along the way, from the right bedside lighting to the best bed linen and breakfast cutlery. Miles was once a builder and his maintenance skills are a useful asset to the business. He is also the king of the kitchen and has poached so many eggs he thinks he’s got it, ahem, cracked!
Moffat is Europe’s first Dark Sky town and is at the heart of a spectacular landscape. The scenery is quite breath-taking here. Walkers come for the famous landmarks – the Devil’s Beef Tub and the Grey Mare’s Tail – just a short distance away, while the roads are a dream for motorcyclists.
Come and see for yourself.
Discover why Moffat is Scotland’s best-kept secret.
Nestled in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway, Moffat is a picturesque town surrounded by some of the most scenic and highest hills in the south of Scotland with great walking trails.
Moffat became a popular spa town in the 17th century because of its sulphurous waters, believed to have healing properties. People flocked to the town for these “healing waters” which were piped from the well to what is now the Town Hall.
As locals and visitors-in-the-know are aware, this historic spa town has a unique charm and character of its own, steeped in history and culture. And for a small town it has a lot to offer.
There are so many quirky landmarks that provide the perfect opportunity to stop, admire and take a shot or two…
Extraordinary scenic views and peaceful places.
Historical buildings a-plenty.
The rich green space of Station Park and its boating lake.
Scotland’s narrowest street – it’s a tight squeeze!
