Rubber Chicken House is my home, and I make it available when I travel for business. It is quirky, clean and organised, and I am sure you will be very comfortable here.
It is a terraced, four-storey Georgian townhouse, with three steps to the front door and winding and straight staircases. You will have access to the ground floor living room-kitchen and the top floor (floor 2) which has two double bedrooms and a full bathroom with shower and bath.
It is within 2 minutes walking distance to the Harbour, bustling restaurants and bars, and Golden Sands beach. However, it is also a quiet spot, up a Dickensian-like street, with panoramic Harbour views.
Due to the location, there is pedestrian access only from the beautifully tiled Kent Steps, which are outside the house and give access to free-of-charge parking on nearby streets on the clifftop (Plains
Chicken House is on a pedestrian, hilly alley which can be accessed two ways:
1. From the seafront: My house is just off Harbour Parade, opposite the enormous Wetherspoons. It is the hilly alley and a pedestrian-only street accessed between Peter's Fish Factory and The Waterfront pub.
2. From the top of the cliff: Kent Place is at the bottom of 'Kent Steps'. They are accessed from Madeira Walk (B2054) near a tourist lamp post with signs saying 'to the beach', 'toilets', etc. It's diagonally opposite to Albion Gardens.
Free parking is available from the top of the cliff at various locations east of the Eastcliff bandstand on Wellington Crescent:
Augusta Road
Truro Road
D'Este Road
Victoria Parade
Pay and display parking is available nearby.
I am a professional artist and composer, creating artworks that centre sound. I am also an academic and a professor in the school of Electronic and Produced Music at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Rubber Chicken House is at the heart of Ramsgate seafront, with bustling restaurants and bars, the beach across the road, and walks along the clifftop.
Recommended Restaurants (tried and tested!)
Albion House Ramsgate: Lovely food and view. Go to the top of Kent Steps and cross the road. Booking sometimes required.
Jah Jah Ramsgate: Great Caribbean food on Harbour Street. The halloumi-crusted macaroni cheese and salt fish balls are amazing.
Perico Lounge: Yummy tapas and reasonable prices, with a gorgeous sea view.
Staple Stores: The best coffee in Ramsgate! Yummy pastries, too.
Peter's Fish Factory: Best fish and chips in Ramsgate, and so close!
Flavours by Kumar: Best curry in Ramsgate! Might need to book as it is popular.
La Magnolia: Best Italia restaurant in Ramsgate.
A La Turka: Delicious Turkish mezze and dishes. It has a lovely vibe, too. Comfy seats and friendly.
Sightseeing Tips:
Ramsgate Tunnels: Tours are available several times daily, and a coffee shop and homefront museum are free of charge. On a scorching day, this is the coldest place in Ramsgate.
Sailor's Church: I'm very fond of this little church. The Smack Boys used to live upstairs, and I once created a sound installation inside. It can be accessed by walking around the harbour, which is a loop that includes the lighthouse.
Pegwell Bay Country Park: A nature reserve of outstanding natural beauty. Drive to Cliffsend and park near the Viking Ship. Some metal steps opposite take you down to the old heliport, which is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
This Museum Is (Not) Obsolete: My friend Sam's Museum. It is interactive and full of experimental and defunct technology - all in working order. Opening times on the website.
Pubs/Bars:
Queen Charlotte, Falstaff and Penelope!
