The nearby Royal Military Canal was built to defend England during the Napoleonic wars and is now a perfect place for a relaxing walk whilst spotting kingfishers and other water birds. Romney Marsh itself is a wonderful place for bird and wildlife spotting. RSPB at Dungeness, the oldest of their reserves is also a fantastic spot for ornithologists. For history lovers the Historic Lympne Castle is nearby, as well as Port Lympne Wildlife Reserve.
