Great Walsingham, in true normal-for-Norfolk style, is actually smaller than Little Walsingham, its more famous neighbour. The two villages are bisected by the River Stiffkey, and the braver of visitors can drive through the picturesque ford provided you have a large enough vehicle. This location is a lovely spot to sit and watch the water float by as you enjoy a walk along the river bank. More peaceful than Little Walsingham, with a beautiful mediaeval church that retains much of its original art and carvings, you'll fall in love with the historical charm of this village. Be sure to visit the craft barn and Walsingham Cafe, famous for handmade pies and pastries, amongst other delicious food.
Also in Little Walsingham you will find lots of amenities and eateries to choose from, including the new VinedMe wine merchant and wine bar, and Walsingham Farm Shop both well worth a visit for all sorts of special treats. For something very different try Norfolk Padel near Fakenham, where you can hire state-of-the-art courts for this fast-growing racquet sport.
Just a ten minute drive away, Wells-next-the-Sea is a hub for North Norfolk coastal activities. From the picturesque harbour, where gilling for crabs is a must, you can walk, drive or catch the beach bus to the spectacular beach with its famous array of colourful beach huts and pine forest. Wells features a flurry of independent shops, cafes, restaurants galleries, arcades and some of the best fish 'n' chips in the area.
Breath-taking Holkham Hall and expansive Holkham beach , and the villages of Stiffkey and Blakeney, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are definitely worth seeing. Each can be found less than fifteen minutes drive away.
This stretch of beautiful coastline is a bucket-list destination for birders and walkers all year round.
