Set in the Hamlet of Healaugh in the heart of the valley of Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park an excellent base for exploring the area. With many walks straight from your door. Walk along the banks of the River Swale a mile to the East the small town of Reeth here you will find pubs, a shop, bakery and ice cream parlour. Take a drive North to The Tan Hill Inn, the highest inn in Britain.
A 10 mile drive East is Richmond, a thriving market town with eateries a plenty and its very own Norman Castle, Richmond Castle with spectacular views overlooking the fast flowing river Swale; The Georgian Theatre Royal, the oldest working theatre in its original form; and The Green Howards Museum, telling the fascinating story of this distinguished regiment. Grab a bite to eat or watch a film at The Station Cinema.
For a scenic drive, head east along the valley following the River Swale through traditional Dales villages and shows off the Dales beautiful landscape head South over the Buttertubs Pass, a high road that winds its way over the fells into Wensleydale, drop down into Hawes, the home of The Wensleydale Creamery, where you can taste and watch how the local cheese is made. The Dales Countryside Museum gives an insight days gone by.
South View is a good base should you wish to head North. You will find Barnard Castle home to The Bowes Museum is the jewel of beautiful Teesdale and is a hidden treasure. The museum houses significant and internationally recognised collections of decorative and fine arts all year round with sort after exhibitions showcased throughout the year.
