The Barn is a converted donkey stable in a rural setting up a private lane. We are surrounded by fields and adjacent to a farm, so you may see and hear tractors and cows occasionally, however for the majority of the time it is very peaceful and there are plenty of swallows and bats in summer. We live opposite the courtyard, however this is your own private space where you can relax in the hammock and have your pets off the lead.
The Barn is cosy and rustic, with a woodburner for cold winter nights. The heating is operated via a digital thermostat, and there is hot water on demand. There are books and board games, and a smart TV with multiple channels.
The kitchen/diner has a table for 5, there are 2 fridge/freezers, electric oven/hob/grill, toaster, kettle, cafetiere and tea/coffee provided. Please note, no dishwasher or washing machine.
The sleeping mezzanines are accessed by ladders, so are unsuitable for toddlers, very young children, anyone with mobility issues or pets! Some children may require supervision using the ladders. Older children absolutely love them! The single beds are above the sitting room, the double is on the kitchen side. There is a single sofa bed with bedding in the sitting room for anyone who prefers to sleep with their pets.
Due to the rural location, a car is necessary to get around. Pembroke is 1 mile and has a good selection of small shops. Pembroke Dock (3 miles) has bigger supermarkets which do deliver.
There are many fabulous beaches and coastal walks within a 5 mile radius, most are dog friendly even in summer, and the Pembrokeshire coast path offers stunning scenery if you like walking. We have a lockable shed for bike storage if you want to explore by bike.
We have lived here for over 10 years and enjoy many outdoor activities here. You'll generally find us at the beach, walking or out on our bikes! My husband also surfs, so can offer advice about the best beaches to surf near here. I am a keen cyclist so can offer advice on quieter lanes or places to go that are safer for children.
We have so many gorgeous beaches you could go to a different one each day of the week! The water clarity for swimming and snorkelling can be amazing in summer, and coasteering is a great day out.
Pembrokeshire also has many castles which offer a huge variety of events in the summer which are always popular with families. Those looking for more secluded areas can easily walk sections of the coast path where you may not see a single soul all day.
For those wanting to see wildlife there are the puffins on Skomer island and gannets at Grassholm. Boat trips operating from Martins Haven book up quickly from April to see the puffins, and you can even book puffin snorkelling trips with Celtic Deep as a once in a lifetime experience.
