The Clockhouse is located in rural Norfolk, not far from the Norfolk/Suffolk border, with a number of small towns and villages nearby which provide interesting opportunities for visiting. Nearby, the local nature reserve at Redgrave and Lopham Fen is worth exploration and features for species that are unique to the fens.
There are a number of excellent pubs and restaurants in the area besides the pub in the village. If you fancy vegetarian food try The Walnut Tree in Thwaite for a great choice and The Leaping Hare at Wyken Hall has both a cafe and restaurant with local produce on offer and a farmers' market every Saturday. For keen walkers and cyclists make sure to explore this beautiful countryside on the Harleston and Waveney Cycling Routes. And after a busy day out make sure to pop into one of the award-winning microbrewery, Ampersand.
Make sure to venture along the Waveney valley where you will find the ancient market town of Harleston, close to the river Waveney. Wednesday has been market day since 1259 and is still the place to shop with its many speciality shops, cafes and restaurants. The Waveney Valley is well worth a visit with plenty to interest photographers, artists and those wishing to see the local wildlife.
Diss is also only a short drive and it offers a range of days out, including walks around the Meare and visits to Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens, along with many great places to eat and shop.
Further afield, great days out can be enjoyed at Banham Zoo, Snetterton Race Track and Thetford forest. Bury St Edmunds combines mediaeval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and a glorious Cathedral and Abbey gardens. Just outside the town, Ickworth has a National Trust owned estate with a stunning neoclassical building at its heart. Helmingham Hall boasts spectacular Grade I listed gardens within the beautiful parkland along with a moated Hall.
