An idyllic rural getaway on the doorstep of the Cotswolds. The Long Barn at Brandiers Farm is situated on a micro nature reserve of 35 acres of re-wilded farm land, woods, lakes and meadows itself situated on a Roman settlement. It's a great place for walks with the dog and lots to do in the area for families and couples. There's lots to do at Brandiers itself, and we run events through summer months like pizza and folk music nights. The Long Barn is a very large space and reflects the quirky and artistic tastes of the Lavery family. The 'Safari Room' upstairs is a huge master bedroom with sofas, a zebra skin rug a balcony overlooking a beautiful walled garden. Downstairs is the 'Cuban Room' a cosy double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and Cuban portraits by renowned photographer Peter Lavery (your host) Upstairs is the games room which is based on a New Orlean's style bar, complete with pool table, T.V and Xbox, bar and some eye popping murals on the walls. This room also has a huge sofa bed and doubles as the third bedroom, sharing a bathroom with the master bedroom. Downstairs is a glass fronted lobby and a huge kitchen and dining room, with a large wooden table that comfortably seats 6 - 8 as well as all your modern kitchen amenities, such as an 'Everhot' stove and induction cooker. You have access to the whole Long Barn, but also to the whole of Brandiers Farm itself, which consists of 35 acres of re-wilded farmland. Please note that work does happen on the farm and machinery and tools will be present in the yard while work is taking place. Over the lane there's lakes, meadows, woods, and a lake with a bar and a boat. There are many beautiful areas to explore and little nooks and crannies about the farm to sit and relax. The farmland around is dotted with public rights of way, and there are many longer walks to be had through fields and forests - just ask your host.
Peter is your host at Brandiers. The farm was bought by photographer Peter Lavery and his wife Kimberly, a fashion and interior designer 40 years ago, and their artistic flair has helped create the stunning accommodations at Brandiers from converted farm buildings. Their two sons Tom and Oliver and their families also live on site, and help manage ‘The Brandiers Project’ which runs social events such as folk music nights, pizza nights, and storytelling as well as craft workshops such as spoon carving. These take place on site, by the lake and rustic bar in a private woodland or in the Brandiers Site Museum. Currently work is underway to turn Brandiers into a Living History Centre as well as resurrecting the Roman Pottery industry at Brandiers farm and conserving its unique ecology.
Most guests do not feel much need to leave the peace and tranquility of Brandiers, however the local area does have much to recommend it. The village of Minety is walkable and offers a lively community led ‘rugby club’ with Fish and Chip night on most Tuesdays and local beers. The Cotswold Water Park is a five minute drive away and offers a range of water sporting activities from sailing to windsurfing to archery to angling. There is also a swimming lake at Neigh Bridge which is free to the public to swim in (ask your host for details). Further afield, the towns on Cirencester and Malmesbury are popular to visit and have a range of shopping and supermarket options. The picturesque cotswold village of Bibury is worth a visit, as is the historic town of Tetbury with its royal connections. The surrounding villages also offer a range of cosy pubs. Our favourites are the Crown at Cerney Wick and the Potting Shed at Crudwell.
