The Cottage dates back to the 15th century and as such has many quirky features including beamed ceilings. The river runs along the boundary of the property where there are beautiful walks and places to access the water. Our orchard is also available to guests where we keep chickens and ducks. The gardens and river bank abound with wild life. We set trail cameras on the river and frequently see otters, foxes, deer, herons. The bird life is extremely varied too with dippers, goosanders, Tree creepers, nuthatch, siskins, woodpeckers, as well as all the little garden birds. This really is a wildlife lovers paradise so don't forget your camera. We are both dog lovers although we don't have dogs ourselves as our 15 ducks and 28 hens and one cockerel keep us busy. We love having other peoples dogs to stay.
Kevin and Linda have been running The Old mill cottage as a holiday cottage since 2019 when the cottage was fully renovated with new plumbing and electrics. We live in the adjoining cottage at the moment however upon completion of the Mill renovations this cottage will also be available for holiday let hopefully later in 2023. Both cottages have similar accommodation so will be an ideal family destination if two families wish to holiday together of if relatives want to holiday as a group. We also have a shepherds hut overlooking the river which is available to book and sleeps two people. We are very passionate about the rural life here and love all the wildlife on the river which we like to share with our guests. We both enjoy walking and really enjoy the walks through the fields, woods and tiny Devon hamlets on the doorstep of The old mill and the beautiful walks just 4 miles away on Dartmoor.
Okehampton is a busy market town on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and near the highest and most dramatic areas of the moor, where Yes Tor rises to a height above 2000 feet. To the north of Okehampton are some beautiful rolling Devon hills where small farming villages nestle amidst woods and fields with plenty of gently flowing rivers. The fabulous Roadford Reservoir offers a multitude of watersport activities and fishing opportunities. Okehampton has a prominent medieval castle overlooking a wooded river valley, the Museum of Dartmoor Life (where Tourist Information can be found) and Okehampton train station, which has been restored to its 1950s glory running trains along a scenic route to Meldon the highest station in southern England and on to Exeter.. The town also has spectacular views across Dartmoor, access to fabulous walks and Simmons Park where you’ll find a children’s adventure playground. This area of Devon has plenty of farm shops and country inns serving good food where visitors can spend time relaxing and unwinding amongst unspoilt countryside. Many of the local pubs and restaurants are very happy to have dogs on their premises.
