The Old Potting Shed is a ten-minute walk from the centre of the Georgian market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire. It is also just a few minutes walk to the riverside, with wonderful winding walks suitable for all ages. The cobbled marketplace is a treasure trove of shops, pubs and restaurants, and there is a thriving Saturday market. Make sure to walk along Richmond Falls, particularly striking after a rainy day, and to visit the ancient Richmond Castle. Follow the trail to Richmond Bridge, rewarding yourself with a treat from the award-winning bakery in The Station, a converted Victorian railway building, housing two cinema screens, a café and a brewery.
Don’t forget your walking boots as there a plenty of walks from your doorstep; the area is a haven for walkers and cyclists. The famous Little Drummer Boy route runs around Richmond, and the Coast to Coast path passes nearby heading towards Reeth.
Further afield, discover the many attractions in the Yorkshire Dales. One of our favourite summer days out is to explore Jervaulx Abbey followed by delicious ice cream at Brymor. Nearby towns of Barnard Castle, Masham, Leyburn and Ripon offer a variety of shops, heritage sites, beautiful gardens and more to explore. The North York Moors National Park is only a 40-minute drive away, and if you enjoy fish and chips then take a trip to the Yorkshire Coast – Saltburn is only an hour’s drive away.
