Property information

Surrounded by the stunning scenery of Ingram Valley in the Northumberland National Park, The Star Barn is very aptly named, sitting in one of the best 'dark skies' astronomy areas of the country.

Neighbourhood information

Situated in the north of the Northumberland National Park, the Breamish Valley, also known as the Ingram Valley after the pretty village of Ingram, is home to breathtakingly remote scenery and fascinating prehistoric sites. The River Breamish carves its way through the landscape which is interspersed with reminders of ancient history, including Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements, burial mounds and hill forts. Keen stargazers will be as content as historians here as the valley falls within the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, the largest expanse of protected dark sky in Europe, while the village of Ingram itself is a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site. The nearby market town of Alnwick was a stronghold of Northern power in the Middle Ages and is guarded by magnificent Alnwick Castle, which more recently served as a filming location for Harry Potter. The Alnwick Garden lies alongside the castle and is best known for its cherry blossom trees, collection of poisonous plants and Grand Cascade. The twisting cobbled streets of the town boast a variety of independent shops including Barter Books, a famous second-hand bookshop with a miniature train running atop its bookcases, plus there’s a market every Saturday and a Farmers' Market on the last Friday of every month. The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is less than an hour's drive away, with the dramatic castle and beach at Bamburgh, the charming fishing village of Craster and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne serving as the perfect destinations for day trips. Alternatively, head inland where walkers can enjoy exceptional days on the trails through the Cheviot and Simonside Hills and alongside Hadrian’s Wall, stopping along the way to explore ruined Roman forts and relax in cosy pubs.
