The neighbourhood
The cottage is located in Oxwich on the south side of the Gower Peninsula, just a 5-minute walk from Oxwich Bay and its unspoilt, sandy beach. Fantastic for a morning jog, a leisurely stroll, paddling or enjoying a variety of water sports, the bay is a wonderful place to spend the day enjoying the fresh air and natural beauty of the area.
If you fancy treating yourself, there’s also The Beach House Michelin-starred restaurant, right beside the water which is the perfect place for dinner after a busy day.
Meanwhile, Oxwich village is a lovely, historic village with fishermen’s cottages, thatched houses, a medieval church and a shop (open March to October). If given advance notice, the owners of the property will accept and unpack grocery deliveries for you too.
Gower covers 80 square miles and its wilderness makes it a fantastic place for everyone from excited children and families looking for adventure, to couples who love walking, keen birdwatchers and creatives who come to focus on their art or their writing.
It’s also a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that incorporates The Oxwich National Nature Reserve, home to woodlands, dunes and lakes, as well as an array of flora and fauna. If you like wildlife, after you’ve been for a nature walk, take a boat trip with a local guide in search of sea birds and seals. If you’re lucky you might even spot the dolphins (May to September).
For outdoor activities and adventures, Gower is hard to beat. For walkers there’s the Wales Coastal Path with its rugged coastline and beautiful beaches. However, if it’s water sports that gets your heart pumping surfing, windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing, paddle boarding and jet-skiing are available locally.
The seascapes are also very popular with photographers as the light is incredible and there is always something different to see, whether you’re after a dramatic shot or something more serene.
