Situated only 5 minutes from the heritage heart of Durham city centre and yet offering unbroken views across rolling fields, woodland and open countryside, the site sits within 7.5 acres of Poplar Tree Garden Centre's own grounds in the beautiful and historic village of Shincliffe.
Poplar Tree is one of Durham's most popular garden centres with a 50+ year family history on the site. Offering not only a fantastic array of plants, trees and a collection of special gifts it is also home to the wonderful Brambles Coffee Shop serving teas and coffees, cakes and home-cooked food throughout the day.
Sympathetically and naturalistically landscaped, the lodges are raised within the grounds to maximise the views and elevate the complete connection to nature the site offers. The Weardale Way offers miles and miles of walks along the beautiful River Wear right from the doorstep and can take you further into the spectacular countryside or directly into the heart of the city.
Renowned for its nature and wildlife, Shincliffe natives include otters, king fishers, barn owls, buzzards, deer, badgers and hedgehogs to name a few! Whether you time your trip to visit the famous bluebell woods or want to see the ground carpeted with wild garlic and wood anemones, you are no more than a couple of minutes away from immersing yourself in nature.
Shincliffe is one of County Durham's most picturesque villages and boasts a beautiful setting for the two local pubs at either end of the village. Centred around historic St Mary's Church, which was consecrated in 1851, there is a host of history on the doorstep. It also has its own fantastic children's play park and just over the bridge, you'll find an award winning Indian restaurant situated in the old Victorian Water Pump House on the banks of the river.
