The Wee Smiddy is a handcrafted shepherd’s hut full of rustic charm. Once a blacksmith’s forge, it’s now a cosy retreat with forest walks with stunning views over Grantown-on-Spey and wild river swimming from the doorstep.
Book into your host’s yoga studio 'Highland Faerie' for the ultimate retreat experience—perfect for solo travellers or couples looking to slow down and reconnect with nature.
Inside the hut, you’ll find everything you need for a relaxing stay.
The Wee Smiddy is in the heart of the village. The River Dulnain is across the road from the house - you can hear the water rushing at night! And there are beautiful forest walks behind the house.
The hut is toasty and warm.
You will sleep in a beautiful wooden double bed from Get Laid Beds with a medium firm mattress and reading lamp.
The bathroom is spacious with an electric shower, sink, mirror, toilet and heated with a towel rail and Miminl eco shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap.
The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, induction hob, microwave oven, sink, crockery, glasses, mugs, cutlery, pans and cooking utensils, as well as herbal and black teas, tea pot, milk jug and coffee pods for the nespresso machine.
You can eat at a foldable dining table with 2 stools, which you can fold down for extra space in the hut after use.
There is an inherited silk chinese carpet, with signs of use but beautifully soft and cosy underfoot!
There are steps up to the front doors which open out to the patio.
Because of our rural setting, you might hear bird song AND farm traffic early morning on the road. You may wish to bring ear plugs if you think this will disturb you.
Hi, I’m Aurelie! I live at the Auld Smiddy, next to the Wee Smiddy, and I love sharing this peaceful corner of the Highlands. I enjoy forest walks, river swims, bird song, and foraging. I’ve created a cosy space so others can slow down and enjoy the magic here too. I also teach Kaivalya Kriya yoga and meditation—guests are welcome to book a class for a deeper retreat experience, search 'Highland Faerie'.
River wild swimming and forest walks within walking distance, with chanterelle mushrooms and blueberries to forage in the summer!
You will find restaurants, shops, cafes, artisan galleries and a community cinema in Grantown-on-Spey, 3 miles away by car.
