My extended family and I have spent many years visiting Southwold for holidays and it has a very special place in our hearts. Merries Byre is our home from home, not fussy and overdone but comfy and cosy. All our children learnt to ride bikes at the tennis courts and now that they have grown up, they enjoyed the other delights that this lovely quaint town has to offer. It's our happy place and we hope it becomes yours too.

Merries Byre is very centrally located in Southwold. The town has a lot of independent shops offering everything from art to camping equipment, craft to clothes. There are many places to eat such as The Two Magpies Bakery (where you will find a fantastic selection of artisan breads, pastries and cakes), The Sail Loft, The Lord Nelson, fish & chips from Mark's Place or Mrs Ts at the harbour, or more upmarket fare from The Swan or Sutherland House. There is something for everyone. Southwold is a traditional, unspoilt Suffolk seaside town. There are plenty of things to do around the town from visiting the Lighthouse or Amber Museum to taking a gin or beer tour around the Adnams Brewery. Why not try your hand at pitch and putt, tennis, crabbing or surfing (at the Southwold Surf School - summer months only) or catch a film at the unique Electric Picture Palace cinema which is on Merries Byre's doorstep in Blackmill Road. The area is a walkers, cyclists and dog-lovers paradise, with the Common on your doorstep and beach just a short walk away.
