Dorchester is the County Town of Dorset and has a fascinating history, from the Bronze Age and Roman settlement to the lovely market town it is today. Places of historical interest include the home of the novelist Thomas Hardy, Maiden Castle Hill Fort, and the Maumbury Rings Roman Amphitheatre. Its many attractions include the bustling shopping precinct, museums, restaurants, cafes and inns. There are cycle routes, footpaths, golf courses, and many other activities to enjoy nearby.
