Southerndown is a quaint coastal village which visitors enjoy all year round. The property sits on a quiet road leading to the beautiful Southerndown / Dunraven beach 300m away and offers spectacular cliff top walks along the Heritage Coastal Path. The fields opposite are often occupied by sheep or cattle and they sometimes provide great entertainment with their antics. There are several local pubs within a few miles, ‘Frolics’ restaurant is a few doors away serving good food and there is West Farm which is a 15 minute walk along the road or cliff tops. Tell us what you want and we will be able to help you plan your stay. At certain times it is advisable to book restaurants etc in advance, as they can get fully booked.
The area is great for many scenic walks and very popular with cyclists too. Southerndown beach is good for swimming, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding when the sea is calm. When the surf is up, both Southerndown Beach and our neighbouring beach, Ogmore by Sea (1.5 miles away) are good for surfing or kite surfing. Southerndown often has the most amazing sunsets and sunrises.
We are a short drive away from the very picturesque Southerndown Golf Club (2.5 miles) and a 25 minute drive to the world class Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club is also within a drivable distance (approx 21 min drive - 11 miles).
The historic market town of Cowbridge is only 10 miles away and has a number of pubs and restaurants, boutiques and a Waitrose.
There is the stunning historic village of Merthyr Mawr which is a hidden gem with its beautiful thatched ‘chocolate box’ cottages and the medieval St. Teilo’s church. If you follow the road down about half a mile you will find some of the largest sand dunes in Europe. A one mile walk through this Nature Reserve will lead to a long sandy beach.
There are two local shops a mile from the property. One in St. Brides village and one in Ogmore by Sea, selling local fresh produce, cheese and meat, wines.
