Thank you for your interest in Amalia and Alicia’s Traditional Homes.
I remember staying in my grandmother’s tiny home, now Alicia’s Traditional Home, as a girl when visiting from Montreal in Canada. The large building next door was an old barn with a dirt floor & a fireplace in the corner, where animals had been kept.
My grandparents were already in Canada, and I would come to Rhodes to visit extended family with my parents.
Seeking a new life, my grandparents left Paradisi in 1965 with their young son (my father) and moved to Montreal.
In the meantime, my mother grew up in Asklipio in south Rhodes. She was the youngest of a large family where everyday life was a struggle. Hoping to give her a better life, her parents sent her to Australia when she was only twelve to live with an Uncle.
Despite missing her family, she had a happy life in Australia. But eventually, my grandparents sent her to Canada to meet a young man in an arranged marriage. The families knew each other from Rhodes and felt the two young people would make a good match.
A week after arriving in Canada, my mother was engaged to my father, and they enjoyed a long and happy life together.
I was named after my paternal grandmother. So following tradition, my grandmother left the tiny house and big barn to me.
As an adult, I have continued to visit Rhodes with my husband Tony and our now grown-up daughter Alicia.
Together, we recently restored both properties. We retained as many original features as possible while creating a modern twist on the traditional style.
The old barn, now Amalia’s Traditional Home, has been completely renovated, retaining the central arch feature and corner fireplace. It is now a bright and spacious home with raised platform beds, a comfortable living area and a well-equipped kitchen, perfect for up to six people.
Alicia’s Traditional Home is rustic and perfect for one or two people. A few pieces of furniture & ornaments belong to my grandparents. Please Enjoy!
Amalia's Traditional Home is in a quiet residential neighbourhood, set in an old part of Paradisi with narrow streets and lots of charm.
Paradisi village square, offering a great selection of tavernas, cafes, bakeries, patisseries, supermarkets and other amenities, is only a few minutes by foot.
The main bus route with bus stops a few minutes away in Paradisi connects with Rhodes Town (13kms) and most of Rhode's beautiful beaches and attractions.
Kremasti Beach is eight minutes by car, and popular Ixia Beach is fifteen minutes. There is kite surfing at Kremasti and Theologis, also only fifteen minutes away.
Rhodes Diagoras Airport is fifteen minutes on foot or five minutes by car, making this perfect for an airport stopover or a convenient base to explore all of Rhode's wonderful attractions.
A car is not essential. However, there is a parking space, and a car is also a great way to explore Rhodes.
