Handakas, Megalo Kastro, Heraklion. A city with different names and a history of centuries, complex but also interesting. With many conquerors who succeeded each other and left their marks on this place. Our neighborhood is located within the Venetian walls, on the south side of the old town, with the historical landmark of the 13th century, the church of Panagia Stavroforon. It is located between Kornaros Square and the neighborhood of the 16th church of Agios Matthaios and the famous Lakkos as well as close to the Martinego Bastion of the Venetian Walls and the tomb of our great author Nikos Kazantzakis. From here you can easily visit places of interest, such as Eleftheria Square, Kornarou Square, Morosini Fountain, Loggia, St. Mark's Basilica, Koules, St. Minas Church, St. Titus Church, the Venetian Walls , as well as museums such as the Archaeological, Historical and Natural History. In the shopping center of the city, in just a few minutes' walk, you can find many shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, patisseries and anything else you may need during your stay. With public transport (by bus) from "Kornarou" square you can visit the palace of Knossos, as well as nearby beaches such as Ammoudara, Karteros and Amnissos.
