Hi, I consider myself a lucky man, who got married to a woman from Syros...!
I live and work between: Athens, Syros, Cycladic Islands and Zante (where I come from) practicing law, as an attorney at law.
Basically, I felt in love with Syros, at first sight (1993), and all of its rare beauties.
I enjoy meeting people from different destinations and cultures, as much as I enjoy traveling to new-and original-places.
Most of all, I enjoy undiscovered places, authentic life and traditional food & architecture, that dreams are made of....
Ano Syros is a medieval settlement built like a fortress, to avoid pirates’ attacks, from 8th-13th century. There used to be gates that locked (for example “Kamara”). Here were living the first inhabitants of the island. They were under Frankish and then Venetian occupation for many years. Therefore the majority of the population is Roman Catholic.
Sightseeing:
1. St. George Cathedral: is a catholic church on top of the hill, built in 1200 a.c.
Enjoy the view from the top of the hill). Just walk up the stairs till you find a yellow big wall on your left hand.
2. Piazza: is the main street where all the local activity is taking place. You may find shops with traditional products, restaurants, local museums, exhibitions for ceramics, jewelry, painting are hosted there occasionally.
(in order to go from the house down to piazza, just look at the steps on your right hand. Follow the steps that have a marble in the middle- it is the guide that will take you to the main streets and piazza).
3. Marcos Vamvakaris museum at Piazza: M. Vamvakaris was born and lived in Ano Syros. He started singing and composing in the Tavern of Lilis. He is the founder of Rebetico.
