Villa Sofia is named after Sofia, my great-grandmother who I stayed with in this house when I was a child. She and her husband renovated the house in 1920 but the house is from mid 1800s. When tourists started to come to Rhodes in the 60s Sofia opened her house for them to see and experience something original greek. Now I want to do the same! The villa is completely renovated 2016-17 so it has all the modern aminites but I have kept the traditional feel of a Koskinou village house. You will not be disappointed!!
Opening the metal door to the courtyard everyone gets a smile to their face. If you walk up the stairs you will reach the roof terraces with views of the mediterranian, the mountains, the village and you can even see all the way to Rhodes town! Down in the courtyard there is a beautiful pebble floor and a big seating area with a big BBQ!
The house consists of one big “sala” with 6 meters up to the ceiling with loft beds and another pebble floor, a walk-through kitchen, another room with fireplace, tv and a very comfortable sofa bed, one en-suite bathroom and another bathroom outside.
Mixing old and new this is a wonderful traditional greek living experience!
My name is Kostas Tampratzis and I am born and raised in the beautiful village of Koskinou - Rhodes, Greece. After the mandatory army service I continued on to military school for 2 years. I left from there with one star on my shoulder and a lot of experience and strength. I continued to work at my familys restaurant and I later became the owner the last 5 years. So you can ask my how to make the best greek food!
I am very proud to rent out my familys traditional house, where I spent the first years of my life, living with my parents, sister, grandmother and grand-grandmother. It is a house with a lot of history.
One of my biggest interests is fixing and building most anything, so when the idea of renting out the house me and my fiancee Jeanette decided to renovate everything ourselves. Apart from all of the above I love to go fishing! Jeanette is from Sweden so when we go somewhere it is either to family around Greece or visiting her family in Stockholm.
Koskinou (Greek: Κοσκινού) with a population of over 3000 is a beautiful traditional village at 7 km from the capital, built atop of a hill overlooking the east coast of Rhodes.
Koskinou is one of the oldest villages on the island and walking around the village you will find traces from the ancient Greek and the Byzantine eras.
With it's winding roads it is easy to get lost, but it is not so big so you will eventually find your way. The people are very friendly and most speak english.
The old ladies on the street might be curious of who is staying at the house so please say hi to them!
In the village you can find a few restaurants, coffee places, kiosk, pharmacy, butcher shops and 2 small supermarkets for the most necessary things. Bigger supermarkets are about 3 kilometers away.
There are buses from the village square. Taxi is easy also. You can call a taxi from the house if you don't want to wait for the bus.
There is not set parking for the house but you can park on the street wherever you find a clear spot.
