Hi my name is Fiona and I'm from Westport in Co Mayo.
I'm a parent and we have a little girl aged 9.
My parents, John and Ann live next door and are always available to assist you and to give local advice.
We love the outdoors and there is plenty to do around Westport, including mountains. Climbing the Holy Mountain Croagh Patrick is a must. Also Connacht's highest mountain Mweelrea (826m) is a 40 minute drive away but it is tough! Westport of course is on the Wild Atlantic Way. The beaches we love are Bertra and Old Head, both gorgeous. You can surf in Lousiburgh where a guy called Elvis runs the school.
Our daughter loves Westport House, particularly its Pirate Adventure Centre. For adults the grounds and the Georgian Castle are fantastic.
There's lovely shopping in Westport too. There are five galleries in the town, lovely boutiques, the vintage furniture shop Townhouse, and lovely Carraig Donn.
Our favourite places to eat include Portmore, Sage, the reliable Wyatts Hotel, the equally reliable The Helm (down on the Quays). For casual dining, This Must be the Place and Leafy Green Salad are lovely. Pub-wise you won't go wrong with Matt Molloys, Morans or Blousers.
Farnaght is exactly 3km Westport. It is located in a lovely rural area, just off the N59 which connects Westport, to Clifden and Connemara.
Within five minutes drive, will be in Westport, a gorgeous planned town on a canal, under the shadow of Croagh Patrick, with a huge array of shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, rich in culture, music and heritage. Westport was adjudged as the Best Place to Live in Ireland by The Irish Times. Within seconds of arriving you can see wy.
The area offers unsurpassed beaches, amazing Greenway cycling, golf, horse-riding and many walks including the iconic Reek of Croagh Patrick itself. This 750m peak is accessible but challenging hike and a highlight of any holiday to Ireland. You can travel to gorgeous Clare Island by ferry.
