Meet us in Darjeeling.
Kurakani Homestay combines what we love most, music and the tales of the Eastern Himalayan hills. We are Jenny, a socio-cultural anthropologist focusing on engaged research projects, storytelling, social justice and art, and Bhaskar, lead vocalist and songwriter at Mantra, a Nepali folk rock band based in Darjeeling. Of course, we could not do it alone, it takes a village to be a host, we find support in our family and dedicated staff Jacob and Maria have experience in hospitality.

From our rooms and veranda you have a view of the picturesque rolling Bijanbari hills towards the Nepal border. On a clear day, a look to the your right down the road will give you a glimpse of the snow-capped sacred protector if the region, Mount Kangchendzonga, the third highest mountain in the world.
In the same building we run the Studio Café with coffee, cold drinks, and delicious food. You can find our menu in the photos of the space. Our café also has a library with novels and books on the Darjeeling and Sikkim region – perfect for the interested traveller. There are games and also drawing activities for children. We also hold workshops and exhibitions and are open for you to be a part of this exchange.
We are excited to host you and to make your stay memorable. Our name "Kurakani" translates as conversation. It is the banter and laughter you can hear from the tea stalls and the benches at Chowrasta. It is sharing, it is the back and forth of trust. It is knowledge. It is ancestral. It is rhythm. It is melody.
Guest access
Our guests have access to the veranda and the café area. Our residence is on the floor above the rooms.
周辺エリアの情報
Singamari is an up and coming neighbourhood in Darjeeling, close to the zoo with beautiful views. It has two colleges close by and many new cafés and restaurants have come up. It is warmer than other parts of Darjeeling, this is especially important in our cold winters. The mall is in walking distance, you can also catch a cab, or if you are a hiker, take the Love road through a forested area and reach the mall through the backroads - and experience in itself.
