The Estate that welcomes you at Nine Furlongs was built in the mid 1800’s. The bungalows are as much a part of the land as are the evergreen forests that surround the Estate.
Colonial-era bungalows, in the most serene estate, were carved out of the virgin forests of Binsar by the British to serve as the summer capital.
Nine Furlongs consists of bungalows within the estate. The bungalows from yesteryears, has been carefully restored keeping its original character intact. They are independently located to allow you to enjoy in quietude, the magnificent views of the snow clad mountain ranges that stretch from the Garhwal peaks in the west to the Tibet and Nepal summits in the east.
Much care has been taken to keep your comforts in mind without disturbing the fragile ecology’s delicate balance and it’s sensitive rhythm. It’s powered entirely on solar and all its water needs are provided solely by nature – harvested rainwater and springs.

The Estate pampers you with sumptuous picnic baskets to keep guests in good spirits while they explore the forest and it's numerous trails.
The villages in and around the wildlife sanctuary offer a glimpse into the lives of the hardy mountain people of Kumaon. The old ways of life have been preserved in these small rural communities. It is like taking a trip back in time. Guests can sample the local cuisine and enjoy the heart-felt hospitality of Kumaon while soaking in the customs and rituals peculiar to the region.
Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a world-renowned birding destination with over 200 species of birds.
Guests can enjoy endless hours of birding. Right from the beautiful call of the Blue Whistling Thrush at 4 am to the plaintive staccato of the Grey Nightjar at night, Pheasants, Raptors, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, and more are seen in Binsar.
The Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its wide variety of flora ranging from 25 types of trees and 24 types of bushes to seven varieties of grasses. The higher altitudes of sanctuary are covered with oak and rhododendron trees. March and April are the months when flowers, especially ruby red rhododendron, are in full bloom.
In the sanctuary, one gets to see Himalayan Goral , Chital, Musk Deer, Sumatran Serow, Wild Boar, Pine Marten, Red Fox, Gray Langur, Rhesus Macaque, Red Giant Flying Squirrel, Indian Muntjac and if one is lucky, one can also get to see the apex predator, the Leopard!
Binsar is also home to many reptiles and a wide range of butterflies.
