Blönduós is a charming town nestled along the tranquil coastline of northern Iceland. Surrounded by breathtaking natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Blönduós offers visitors an array of attractions and activities to explore during their stay.
One of the main characteristics of Blönduós is the river Blanda that splits the town into the south side and the north side.
The village is located near the Vatnsnes Peninsula where you can find Hvítserkur, a 15 m (49 ft) tall basalt rock stack protruding from Húnaflói Bay and Borgarvirki a columnar basalt fortress. Vatnsnes is an excellent place for sealwatching.
In the East you will find the valley Skagafjörður with a lot of stunning places to visit, like the turf museum Glaumbær, the island Drangey or the natural hot tub Gréttislaug.
Other interesting natural wonders nearby are Kálfhamarsvík and Kolugljúfur.
Blönduós also offers a variety of restaurants and cafés. It has a good grocery store, an excellent sports facility, and a very good swimming pool with sauna and jacuzzi.
An evening stroll in the bright summer evenings by the south side of the river and a visit to the oldest part of the village must be on your itinerary.
