Our farm’s journey began almost seventy years ago, when its rolling fields supported hardy sheep flocks alongside cereals and forage. Over time, the fertile soils revealed their true calling—olive groves and vegetable plots—and today we dedicate ourselves entirely to crafting cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil and harvesting seasonal vegetables, all certified organic. When we assumed ownership in October 2024, the estate wore the gentle patina of a bygone era. Guided by our deep respect for Maremma’s farming heritage, we set out to renew every corner of the property. Olive trees that had been neglected were pruned back to vigorous health, and gradually we wove guest experiences into our agricultural rhythm. Mornings here begin with strolls through dew-kissed groves, followed by oil-tasting sessions where the fresh fruitiness of the first-press oil mingles with homemade bruschette. Our vegetable harvest finds its way to the table, paired with local wines, while cooking demonstrations invite you to master simple recipes in our country kitchen. Today, Agriturismo Lo Scalandrino stands as a vibrant retreat that honours its pastoral roots. You’re welcome to slow down, explore winding farm paths, savour pure organic flavours, and share in the heartfelt hospitality that defines our family-run haven in the heart of the Maremma.

Just beyond Grosseto’s medieval walls, the Maremma unfolds in a tapestry of rolling hills, umbrella pines and a wild, untamed coastline. Here, golden sands give way to evergreen forests and secret coves that murmur tales of Etruscan kings. You can lose yourself in Uccellina Nature Park’s 25 km of marshes, dunes and sea-sprayed pine groves, then slip into crystalline waters at Cala Violina or Rocchette Beach. Alternatively, you can opt for horseback rides or cycling trails that meander through olive groves, farmland and coastal dunes. Inland, hilltop gems like Massa Marittima and Pitigliano crown the horizon with Romanesque cathedrals, medieval lanes and sweeping piazzas, while the tufa towns of Sovana and Sorano (as well as Pitigliano)—hewn from volcanic stone and linked by ancient Etruscan paths—offer a journey back in time. Capalbio’s Tarot Garden adds a whimsical touch with its larger-than-life sculptures, mirrors and mosaics. Flavours here are born of land and sea: Castiglione della Pescaia and Talamone’s fishing ports dish up fresh sea bass, prawns and calamari drizzled in cold-pressed olive oil; Morellino di Scansano pours a robust red to echo the sun-kissed vineyards; and right on our farm you can taste organic olive oil, seasonal vegetables and homemade preserves. Unforgettable day trips await too: the free, year-round sulphur pools of Saturnia cascade into natural jacuzzis; boat excursions from both Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole venture to Isola del Giglio and the surrounding archipelago; and the dramatic cliffs, hidden inlets and fishing villages of Monte Argentario promise adventure at every turn.
