The Cavallino peninsula is a strip of land about 15 km long that extends beyond the Jesolo area between the sea and the lagoon and is about half an hour by motorboat from Venice. The municipality is one of the youngest in Italy, having detached itself from the city of Venice only in 1999, and encompasses 12 hamlets.
It takes its name from two of its hamlets: Cavallino, a term derived from the ancient use of the area for horse breeding, and Treporti, due to its location, situated between the three ports of Ammiana, Costanciaca and Torcello.
The Mediterranean climate, along with the friendly and welcoming local people and the camping villages of rare beauty and organization, have turned the quiet peninsula of Cavallino into the European capital of open-air tourism. The inhabitants of Cavallino Treporti are proud to have created a unique and extraordinary complex of campsites and holiday villages, rightly considered among the best in the world.
The appeal of the Cavallino coastline, however, does not lie only in its renowned beach tourism: visitors are also drawn to the region because of the historical and cultural wealth of the area, exemplified by numerous war buildings dating back to the First World War, connected by the museum itinerary called Via Dei Forti the lagoon environment and its ecosystem, which make it a part of the UNESCO site ‘Venice and its Lagoon’; and the events that the municipality promotes during the summer season.
