Casa Lilla is owned and run by an Irish family with a passion for all things Italian, “Well almost all things!”
In 2005, we came across this house nestled in the centre of Acquasparta in Umbria and fell in love with it. Notwithstanding its tired façade, overgrown garden, and damp, crumbling interior, it was love at first sight for both of us, and the journey started!
After lots of negotiations, Italian bureaucracy, and a sea of red tape we finally became the owners of Casa Lilla (or Casa Floris as it was then), in September 2005, and started putting our plans into action. In early 2006 we moved lock, stock and barrel from Donegal in Ireland to Acquasparta Umbria and began the restoration project of this 19th-century town villa. What we naively thought would be a 6-8 month project, turned out to be 18 months!
During 2007 we added a new addition to Casa Lilla, our son and in 2010 followed a little sister for him, so now Casa Lilla is the home of the McGlone family, and we all hope we can welcome you to Acquasparta soon.
Shopping, cafes, bars & restaurants
The best place to enjoy the Palazzo Cesi is from Caffé La Piazza or Bar Loreti, both favourite local spots, both have tables and chairs set out during the summer months and there is a nice buzz with families and kids playing and the locals discussing the never-ending debates/arguments that all Italians seem to be constantly having! You can sit outside and enjoy a coffee or a beer in the newly restored piazza, which up until 2005 was actually used as a car park! Both bars are relaxed and friendly and you will always find the local men huddled over a game of cards inside. They also serve light snacks and great ice cream. Caffé La Piazza is closed on Mondays and Bar Loreti is closed Tuesday.
Further up heading out of the town on Corso Dei Lincei you have Bar Il Corso, newly restored in 2009. They have tables outside during the summer months and serve light snacks, beer and nice wines by the glass. There is a Rocchi Pizza on Via Stelluti offering inexpensive pizza slices to take away and lunch dishes, they have a few tables inside too.
