The Palazzo di Bagnaia is our family home, it belonged to my parents in law, then to my husband and myself. My three children, now adult, spent all their holidays in Bagnaia when they were young and still leave Rome and Milan for weekends here whenever possible. We are all incredibly fond of the house and its lovely garden.
Our garden is very large, over 3 hectares, and there is a formal Italian garden, but also large areas for children to play, adults to jog (the drive is 300 metres long), a vegetable garden, table tennis and the pool.
In 1990 we decided to re-structure some of the outhouses, which are inside the park area, into holiday homes. In 1992 we built the pool which was completely relined in 1915.
One of the two small apartments is at present ungoing a complete restructure and will be a luxury home for a romantic weekend, holiday or honeymoon and will have its own lovely patio and garden area and should be ready by June.
We look forward to seeing and meeting new guests this summer, and welcoming back old friends from previous summers.
We can organise any type of excursion you wish in the area:- wine-tasting, vists to the Trasimeno Lake, Assisi, Spoleto, Rome, etc.
I now run the Palazzo di Bagnaia with my three children. I am English and came to Italy many years ago on holiday - I'm still here !!!
My mother was Austrian and my husband Italian but with a Norwegian mother, which makes us a very European family.
I have a resident gardener and his wife who are from Moldavia and speak Ittalian, French and Russian. I speak English, French, German and Italian so we have no problems with communicating with our guests.
My children are Leopoldina 33 an art historian, Federica 29 an architect and Enrico 26 with a degree in Political Science and International Affairs currently working in Milan.
My special hobby at the moment is taking photos and whenever I can get away I love to travel (anywhere really, I even love spending a weekend in some tiny remote but picturesque village in the heart of nowhere !!!).
The Palazzo di Bagnaia is located 8 Km from the centre of Perugia.
Bagnaia village is very small and very unspoilt. The nearest village with services is Castel del Piano, 1Km away; here you can find supermarkets, banks, a large chemist, car mechanics etc.
There are a number of restaurants within a 2/3Km radius from Bagnaia; these range from pizzerias to trattorias to top level restaurants.
The Nestlé chocolate factory is 4Km distant and we can arrange visits especially for children.
It is a very useful area for excursions being almost at the centre of Umbria. We are very near Orvieto, Gubbio, Spoleto, Assisi, and it is only 2 hours drive to Rome and 1 1/2 to Florence.
