Of Etruscan origin and founded, according to legend, by Porsenna, the ruler of Chiusi; some documents and artifacts found in the Medici Fortress, as well as the necropolis on which the medieval walls rest, and finally the Etruscan inscriptions embedded in the facade of Palazzo Bucelli, trace its existence back to the 4th-3rd century BC
