We are an italian-american couple who like to experience life in the Tuscany hills. Love for nature, art and creativity are part of our life style. Our place is not a "cold", without-personality apartment. It's where we spend some of our week-ends, away from the mess and fuss of the city and we furnished it in the coziest way possible. It's our beloved house! We would like you to experience the same relaxing feelings we get when we wake up in the morning and see all the hills around enfolded by the clouds. The sounds, voices, fragrances of a small italian town when we get out of the house and mix with local people.
The Fabbrica castle, originally owned by the diocese of Volterra, was conquered in 1163 by the Pisan army led by Ranieri Gaetani. From then on, Fabbrica's history is intertwined with that of the Gaetani family, who in the 13th century built a fortress with four corner towers and a large central keep. In 1284, Fabbrica was mentioned in the statutes of Pisa and assigned to the captain of the Upper Val d'Era, residing in Peccioli. In 1362, during the hostilities between Pisa and Florence, the Gaetani briefly seized Fabbrica and Ghizzano, but in 1364 Pisa regained the castles. In 1406, Pietro Gaetani handed Fabbrica over to the Florentines in exchange for privileges. In 1450, at the request of Florence, the towers of the fortress were demolished, and the fortifications were gradually dismantled. In 1576, part of the Fabbrica estate passed to the Ricciardi family, who in 1685 built a palace in the area of the fortress. In 1877, Countess Emilia Rosselmini Ricciardi married Count Luigi Rosselli del Turco, bringing the properties of Fabbrica as dowry. The Rosselli del Turco family occasionally used the Fabbrica residence until the early decades of the 20th century.
