Hi! I'm Debbie, a travel writer and photographer, a flying Kiwi living in London.
When I first saw Villa Gioiella, on an ancient Etruscan way, between Chiusi and Perugia, perched on a hilltop overlooking the rolling landscape of Tuscany and Umbria, I knew I had finally found 'the one'. A Bella Signora: her foundations firmly planted in the colourful village of Gioiella (appropriately meaning 'little gem' or 'little joy), and her gaze reaching out to the mystery of the land.
It was important to me to be walking distance from all the things that had attracted me to Italy in the first place: food, wine and coffee. Just footsteps from Bar Ruota, the local deli (Conand), Post Office and pharmacy; the village location seemed perfect. But, entering the house, I held my breath because the other essential Italian quality on my 'must have' list was 'views'. I had seen many places that had one or the other. Incredible vistas, but so remote. Or set inside a quaint village but a bit noisy and no Renaissance landscapes. Imagine my 'joy' when, on the other side of the house like Narnia through the wardrobe, all the magnificent beauty of Umbria and Tuscany unfolded before me!
Let me just say, the sunsets from the balcony at wine o’clock are a thing of beauty! Breathtaking views over the Val di Chiana in Tuscany and over to Montepulciano, Cortona and Lakes Trasimeno and Chiusi - priceless.
The villa is decorated with antiques from my travels around the world and Italy. The modern appliances, furniture and fittings are elegant and comfortable. I like to think there is everything you need and more for everyone - from the littlest family members to the most senior.
Gioiella is a hidden gem. There simply is no location more convenient for exploring all the vineyards, culture, history and food of the region.
You have to feel the magical energy of Slow life on a hilltop village of a hill in the heart of Italy.
Reach out! No question is too small.
I look forward to welcoming you soon
