Akitsu is a guesthouse and shop in a traditional kominka-style farmhouse, tucked away in a small woodcarving village in Shiga, Japan.
Staying at Akitsu is an opportunity to experience a different pace — a chance to escape and unwind from the busyness of life. To breathe fresh mountain air, put your feet in an ice-cold stream. To wake up late, to the smell of fresh coffee. To take it slow.
It’s a reminder that efficient isn’t always best — sometimes the slow path is the better path. Well-made, lasting, imperfect.
The Ryokan: up to two people, inclusive of hinoki ofuro soaking tub, wifi, desk, fridge, air-conditioning / heating, and bicycle rental.
optional extras: breakfast basket of pastries and seasonal fruits, laundry service, train pick-up and mini-bar selection.
I am a Fashion Designer, Innovative Product Developer and Illustrator from Sydney, Australia. I decided to pursue the adventure of relocating to Japan and undertaking a different type of creative project: to bring a 100 year old Kominka back to life. I have spent the last 18 months renovating Akitsu and pouring myself into every detail. I can't wait for you to experience this magical place for yourself.
