Dohachi An is part of the Imakumano Terrace An Machiya Hotel Collection. The Hotel is managed by a small International Team and our Guest Services Ambassador - Seifer the Dobie. As a Small Hotel we are dedicated to providing a memorable hospitality experience for our guests both at our hotel but also in the city of Kyoto. Our committment to hospitality extends beyond our hotel and we are active in supporting the local community and business by partnering with local small businesses for the hotel amenities and serivces. For the discerning traveler seeking to indulge in a hidden and personalized experience in Kyoto, we welcome you to Imakumano Terrace Inn. Situated above Sanjusangendo on the foothills of Higashiyama, Kyoto, the Machiya Boutique Hotel is located on a private lane, featuring 5 private and individual machiya townhouses. Our hotel offers guests the opportunity to experience a destination within a destination. Enjoy a beautifully restored historic properties that have been designed to showcase the old-world charms of traditional Japanese architecture and interiors with a perfect blend of modern designs, technology, curated art and antiques, creating the perfect cozy retreat. Each property is named after a great Kyoyaki Japanese Potter and Painter – we take our inspiration from the many kilns and pottery studios in the neighborhood.
The traditional machiya layout covers two floors. The living and bathroom facilities are on the ground floor and the sleeping quarters are located on the second floor. Special features of each machiya include a full functioning kitchen with a dining/family room, a flat screen TV and private garden views. Our bathrooms feature a changing room area, a Japanese bathtub and separate shower facilities. Each property has a separate washing machine and dryer. Indulge in a variety of complimentary amenities and services are available during your stay. We are dedicated to achieving sustainable practices and goals through our eco housekeeping policies to clean and maintain the hotel while minimizing our environmental impact. We use eco-friendly cleaning products and hotel amenities, reducing water and energy consumption, and managing waste effectively.
The machiya is located on a private lane with a front office where guests can requests light housekeeping during their stay and helpful concierge services including but not limited to calling for taxis, restaurant reservations and more. These services are avaialble during the front office hours.

We welcome you to join us in experiencing your own Kyoto at your own pace with the amenities to cater for your bespoke visit to this magical city we call home. The hotel is located in the Higashiyama Foothills above Sanjusangendo in the Kiyomizu Yaki Pottery District. There are still many working kilns and pottery studios located in the neighborhood if you meander through the side streets. There are many hidden gems around the hotel which we are happy to secretly whisper to you during your stay!
