The Bungalow at Makuludola Estate (Plantation Bungalow), inland from Matara, Sri Lanka on the south coast, is set on a hill 270 feet above sea level overlooking our cinnamon and rubber plantation and villagers’ paddy fields. It is newly built to a design by acclaimed Sri Lankan architect, C Anjalendran, as home for myself, my wife and daughters. Since I am an international civil servant currently posted to Afghanistan and often away, we have decided to open The Bungalow to visitors under Sri Lankan Tourism’s “Homestay” scheme. Mr Anjalendran was invited to present this Bungalow at the following conferences / academic sessions: a. Conference code named MAHACON 2016, conducted by the The Indian Institute of Architects, Maharashtra Chapter, held in Mumbai India, in February 2016. b. At an architectural conference held in Colombo, November 2016 organized by the European Union and the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. c. At the academic sessions of the Association of Architects in Bangalore, India on 21 February 2017.

I am a well-traveled person who has worked and studied with a large number of internationals in Africa, East Asia, EU, US and Asia Pacific.

The Bungalow is located in a 72 acre, family owned private estate. There is no public access and it is completely isolated from the rest of the habitat. Our guests can enjoy the following activities within the estate:  Walking, hiking or jogging without disturbance along private estate paths.  Meditating or practicing Yoga on a natural rock platform under the Bo Tree adjoining the Bungalow.  Bird watching and discovering unusual fresh water fish in the estate streams.  Engaging in nature photography, painting and book writing.  Observing cinnamon harvesting, peeling and processing including cinnamon leaf oil distillation.  Observing natural rubber tapping, preparation of sheet rubber, rolling and smoking.  Observing paddy cultivation and harvesting (seasonal) including rice milling.  Joining our chef to experience Sri Lankan Culinary Art.  Observing tea cultivation, tea plucking and processing at a nearby estate.  Visiting the ancient Rock Cave Temple in Elamaldeniya followed by a bath in a natural stream flowing through a rain forest.  Visiting a Snake Conservation Center near the estate.  Enjoying the beaches close-by.
