The only castle in Eastern Europe, the first half of the XIX century, preserved almost in its original form!
Daugavpils Fortress, which at different times also called Dinaburg and Dvina - the most significant cultural-historical monument of Daugavpils and one of the symbols of the city. At different times in this outstanding fortifications housed various army authorities. The total area of the fortress is more than 150 hectares.
The fortress check:
1) every detail of the fortress that was created using the construction experience of the best architectural schools of Tsarist Russia and Europe;
2) the facades of buildings in the Empire style;
3) Nikolaev gates and a water tower, built in the Gothic style;
4) ramparts with eight bastions, six ravelins, six kontrgardami and other defensive structures - lunettes, redoubts and moat;
5) Strengthening the bridge on the left bank of the Daugava;
6) the inside of the fortress, planned according to traditional models of military camps from the parade ground in the center, around which are grouped neighborhoods administrative and residential buildings;
7) Art Centre of Mark Rothko.
