Welcome to Hotel d’Avignon ~ Your home away from home ~ We are a small owner run Hotel. Hotel d’Avignon has been in the family for three generations and was established by Liselotte d’Avignon in 1984. Feel a connection with the past. Elements of the original building have been maintained and revisited to highlight this link between past and present. A FAMILY HISTORY July 12, 1928: Lieselotte Ruebel was born in Hueffler, Reinland – Pfalz | Germany. May 1951: Emigrated to Southwest Africa on the ‘Bloemfontein Castle’ as a housekeeper for her great-aunt Lena Brummer who owned the Hotel Brummer in Otjiwarongo. 1952: Lieselotte moved to Windhoek, where she found work and met her future husband. 1954: Married Fedor, Alexander d'Avignon. 1956: Daughter, Dagmar d'Avignon (Fleiss), was born. 1957: Daughter, Margit d'Avignon was born. 1963: Purchase of a house at Rombergstrasse 6, Windhoek. 1984: Construction began on the Hotel Pension d'Avignon at Rombergstrasse 6, Windhoek. 1989: The Hotel Pension d'Avignon is expropriated by the Windhoek city administration for public use, i.e., road expansion of the Rhynstrasse. 1990: The building at 25 Brueckenstrasse in Swakopmund is acquired and construction work begins to turn the family house into a 11 bedroom Guesthouse. 1991: The Hotel Pension d'Avignon opens in Swakopmund. 1992: Daughter Margit d'Avignon supports Lieselotte d'Avignon, who is weakened by illness. 1993: Margit d'Avignon takes over Hotel d'Avignon. 2023: Niece, Sabine Fleiss takes over Hotel d'Avignon and is the current owner.
