Herberg Hanenberg is our retro-style B&B for anyone looking to escape the rush of city life. In the heart of Wissenkerke, we offer nostalgic charm, comfort and calm.
The building dates from 1876 and was once a resting place for horses—riders stopped here so their horses could drink and eat. Nearly 150 years later, we now offer rest to people.
Inside, you’ll find vintage furniture, warm colours, and quiet corners to read or reflect. Each room is designed for comfort and stillness. You’ll sleep well—and birds will be your morning alarm. Start the day with breakfast from our neighbours at Hotel Restaurant De Kroon.
Our B&B is a place to reconnect—with yourself, with each other, or with the quiet rhythm of the village. Whether you’re staying for a weekend or longer, Herberg Hanenberg gives you the chance to breathe, rest, and recharge.
After years of city life, we decided to start something new—something that reflects what we value most: peace, connection, and a sense of place. Herberg Hanenberg is our way of sharing that rhythm with others.
We renovated this old building with care and attention to detail, choosing retro furniture, soft tones, and vintage textures to create a warm and grounded atmosphere. A place where you can pause and breathe. Herberg Hanenberg is our shared project and our home, and we love welcoming guests who are looking for the same kind of simplicity and quiet.
We’re happy to help with tips—bike routes, quiet swimming spots, or the best place for seafood. But above all, we want you to feel welcome, comfortable, and free to be yourself.
From our doorstep, you can walk, cycle or drive straight into the Schelde Delta—a UNESCO Global Geopark full of wide skies, winding dikes and peaceful creeks. It’s one of the most special landscapes in the Netherlands.
If you love the outdoors, this area has plenty to offer: touring and mountain bike routes, windsurfing spots, quiet hiking trails and even places to dive. We often take the bikes out ourselves, or just enjoy birdwatching in the nearby reserves.
Wissenkerke is also a great base to explore Zeeland’s historic towns. Zierikzee, Middelburg, Goes and Veere are all within 15 minutes by car—perfect for a day of museums, shopping, or lunch by the water.
And if good food is part of your journey, you’ll find top seafood restaurants close by. Fresh mussels, oysters and fish are served just the way they should be—pure, local and delicious. It’s a region to savour: slow, spacious, and full of surprises.
