The cabin is located in a very beautiful and higly popular ski area in Norway. You might meet Norwegian elite skiers along the many miles of organized ski trails in the Sjusjøen area.
This traditional Norwegian mountain log cabin (50m2) is located at Kuåsen, Sjusjøen. The main building has a living room, a kitchen, two sleeping rooms and a hallway at the entrance.
The sauna house (20m2) has a sauna, a changing room, a storage room and an old fashioned dry closet (not water closet). The sauna house – as the main building – has modern electricity and a powerfull infrared heater on the wall in the changing room (3000watts) with a Control unit on the wall.
The main building has a living room and kitchen with respectively clean burning fireplace and woodstove. The kitchen is fully equipped with cups and tubs and has a gas stove for cooking. The kitchen has a drain for greywater but does not have running water installed. Water is fetched in water containers (in the kitchen) from a water post located close to the cabin.
The cabin has basic conditions, without running water or drains. There are a safe water post just outside the cabin (drinking, cocking and cleaning). Everything is self service. You have to bring water from the tap and fetch firewood from the saunahouse. If it is snowing, you have to shovel snow.
Unless you are familiar to cabin culture wintertime, you want to experience this or you are seeking the mountain atmosphere or challenge, you must consider the conditions. Wintertime we do not recommend to bring very young children, elderly people or people with special needs.
The log cabin has been owned by the family since it was built in the mid-60s. We have owned the cabin ourselves in recent years. And want others to take part in the wonderful common area when we are not using the cabin. From the many nice feedback we have received from visitors, we see that guests appreciate it immensely. For a few, this is not the very best way to experience the mountain, and is totally ok.
The cabin is located 920 meters above sea level. Here the snow settles early and leaves late in the spring. That means there is a very long ski season here. And it is in the face of winter that we really appreciate the cabin life. It's cold outside, but warm inside. There are many and long ski tracks to choose from, but also some short ones. And here on the mountain, it is reasonably flat, so you do not need the great skiing skills to achieve the greatest natural experiences in the snow-covered landscape.
When darkness sets in, it's okay to move in to the warmth and comfort. And experience a cabin that is traditionally built in timber, and where the heat from the fireplace adds an extra touch to life.
The cabin is located a little further into the mountain than Sjusjøen. From the cottage you can go straight into the ski track, which is linked to a variety of skiing. If you really enjoy skiing a lot, you can plan different skiing in all directions. Maybe one trip every day? Or you can choose to relax at the cabin, as a break between your ski tours.
If you are going to be at the lodge for several days, a day in Lillehammer is always recommended. Why not take a trip to the Olympic Museum? Or experience the busy no-cars shopping street in Lillehammer.
The area below the mountain can offer the most you can think of activities and offers, perhaps apart from gambling. At Sjusjøen you will find both grocery store, restaurant, pub, equipment shop and ski rental.
However, most of our guests are most interested in the nature, tranquility, skiing and atmosphere you can experience in this area during the different parts of the long winter.
