Welcome to our island farm!
Built in 1895, this three bedroom original Northland-house will give you a travel back in time with both modern and old facilities on the island archipelago of Helligvær, 45-60 min with express ferry (9 eur) from Bodø city centre. On our farm you can fish, tent or walk to the local Coop grocery store have a chat with one of the 100 friendly people living in this archipelago. You can grab your fresh morning coffee and walk two minutes to the top of the island, sit down and enjoy the spectacular 360 degree view of Salten and Lofoten 🌅
The house is indeed old, and the floor is out of level and some dust here and there, the kitchen and bathroom is quite modern, but the rest has kept it´s original charm from when this island was habituated in the late 1800s. This home fits perfect for visitors wanting the real original North-Norwegian experience being close to nature, and no so much high-end fashion homes!
We keep it simple and a reasonably low price removing the cleaning fee as the guests vacuum and clean the house and rooms themselves before departure. We also encourage guests to bring their own towels or bed linen, but we also have one set of bed, duvet and pillow sheet, and towel for 10 Eur pr set =)
Express boat: You can buy round-trip tickets (19 eur) and see the schedule for the express boat (route nr. 18-539 both ways) by googling "Express ferry Bodø Helligvær" and choose:
"Bodø Sentrumsterminalen Kai" as departure.
"Helligvær Hurtigbåtkaia" as arrival.
Important info-The ferry usually has:
4 Departures Thur. & Fri
3 Departures Mon-Wed
2 departures on Saturday and Sunday
If you arrive late, we can reccommend hotel "Scandic Havet" in Bodø, 1 minute walk to the express ferry. This is a passenger-ferry only, no cars. Parking garage 16 eur/day, 4 min walk from the harbour, at "Torggarasjen Bodø". You can bring bikes, strollers or kayaks onboard, and there is self-service food & beverages onboard =)
We are two former Olympic and World championship athletes, who found peace just above the arctic circle 🌐 We want to share our amazing house and let other people catch their dinner from the sea in the morning, and experience the aurora Northern lights or the midnight sun above Lofoten in the evening🌌
Alice speaks French, Italian, Norwegian and a bit of Spanish. Kjetil is Norwegian and speaks English, Swedish & Danish, and currently learning German.
Welcome to our farm!
In the summer time May-Sept, you can rent our boat for fishing or sightseeing among the 365 big and small islands surrounding us - boating license or proof of experience is required. We have fishing gear for rent all year around. The boat is currently at service, and unfortunately not available for rent.
This archipelago is great for freediving, diving, fishing, spearfishing, easy hikes and being one with the elements. The feeling of the strong winter winds, then coming back inside, with hot chocolate and sound of a crackling fireplace, is our favorite ☕️ During the autumn and winter months, Helligvær is perfect for seeing the Northern Lights, being 20 km from the nearest city and light source, you can truly enjoy the spectacular view to its fullest🌌
The first time Helligvær was habituated, it was the Vikings who lived here, and they named it Helligvær - Hellig from old Norse "Heilagr" meaning Holy, an Vær meaning Fishing Place. These islands are indeed known for their abundance of fish!
