Who are 'we'?
Frank, a computer wiz, and Ina, an Independent Celebrant; we both originate in The Netherlands and are married. We love to entertain and are both good cooks, using the not-sprayed vegetables from our garden in home cooked meals. Ina bakes her own wholemeal bread, adding seeds and mild spices for flavour. We both know a lot about New Zealand and Frank is a great tour guide. We are happy to provide you with tips to make your travels easier and more interesting; Frank knows so many off the beaten track places to go.
We will gladly provide extra services like washing and ironing (at a fee) and we can offer a three course dinner (for a fee) at our table if you are looking for a chat about New Zealand life .
Waimate is a country town in one of the largest districts in New Zealand. About 10,000 people live in the district and about 3,500 live in town. Waimate is smack bang between Timaru and Oamaru and is a great location to discover (South) Canterbury and (North) Otago through beautiful day trips. Aoraki/Mount Cook and the beautiful lakes Pukaki and Tekapo are two and a half hours away; Dunedin is less than two hours away, with an extra 45 minutes to get to the albatros colony.
Waimate is a great place to stay!
For a small town it has lots of amenities which are described in the folder in the apartment.
Nature around Waimate is beautiful and if you like to walk or hike, there are several tracks available. Our town's swimming pool is small, outdoors and only opens for summer; lane swimming can be done from 06:30 on weekdays. We have a museum, a supermarket and with our town in revival mode, we have seen lots of new small shops open recently.
The town has a strong community feel and a large number of volunteer and community organisations.
