Hi & welcome, I’m Paula, a Hahei local who is passionate about sharing this beautiful beach town with the world!
Born in Auckland, my family choose Hahei as our summer holiday destination, this is where I grew up exploring with my cousins. This tradition carried on for both my children & my partners family. We have been fortunate enough to be able to pass on the love of both enjoying and exploring this amazing place. From the stunning beaches of Hahei, Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, Cooks beach, Whitianga and New Chums Beach, we share a love of the ocean both above and below. It is not in every bodies life time that you are able to say "I swim with the dolphins and Orcas" I moved to Hahei permanently to be near my elderly Aunty and Uncle who are still lucky enough to be living here with help & support of myself and the community. Hahei also provided me with a wonderful man, who also has holidayed here for many years. He has a wonderful knowledge of the area and could definitely tell a story or two...Mostly tales of fishing & diving!
We look forward to helping you create your own experiences & stories to tell about this magical place!
Hahei’s beautiful white sandy beach is close for you to enjoy, as is Cathedral Cove. Hot Water Beach is a short drive away, here you can soak therapeutic hot pools at low tide. Swim in the crystal blue waters of the marine reserve & appreciate the local sea life. There are also lots of native bush walking and cycling options around.
The small township of Hahei has a general store, café, restaurants & craft brewery. In the surrounding areas there is a variety of other food options. Whitianga has two supermarkets.
Immerse yourself in the local art galleries or try something new with one of the many water-sports lessons available.
There is a local petrol pump, larger gas stations are located in Whitianga, Tairua or Hikuai.
It is an easy quick walk to beach, shops and cathedral cove beach bus. The Cathedral Cove beach bus will take you from the shops or carpark up to the lookout, where you get stunning views of the bay and Hahei beach, from here it is a 35-minute walk to world-renown Cathedral Cove, alternatively it is a five-minute boat ride by water taxi.
It is a short 10-minute drive to either Hot Water beach or the Whitianga ferry. Go-Kiwi Shuttles are also available.
