Downton Abbey charm in Reefton. Affordable group stay with plenty of space plus free breakfast. (Butler not included). For groups larger than six, extra accommodation can be arranged. Experience the charm of a bygone era. Built early 19th Century with, in the words of the local paper at the time, "A handsome edifice with bold reception room, Wunderlich ceilings, conveniently arranged kitchen with parlour, beautiful bathroom with hot and cold water, electric light, all combine to make it one of the most complete in the Dominion."
We enjoy meeting travellers from NZ and internationally. We spent twelve years restoring this old beauty and are understandably enthusiastic about small town NZ. Always keen to chat if our guests are keen too. We can also arrange tours of the historic elements of Reefton if wished : there's the 1892 Railway Precinct, The 1872 Courthouse, 1872 Oddfellows Hall (all being carefully restored and maintained), original mainstreet shops (still operating), and several privately owned building from those eras.
Born on gold in the 1880's, reefton is smalltown NZ with bigtown heart. Only a two minute stroll to cafes, restaurants, Distillery, cinema, gallery, an eclectic museum, gym and heated swimming pool. And one hour to natural Alpine hot pools or coastal blow holes at Punakaiki. Serious mountainbiking? We are central to the Old Ghost Road and the new Pike River track and our own Goldfields Journey - a network of single tracks which linked those 1880 miners to their work and are now open for all grades of mountainbiking and all types of bikes..ebikes included! So head outdoors to the natural beauty surrounding Reefton or chill offline, kick back and enjoy the genteel art of conversation as you relax in our yesteryear home.
