「The owner couple was absolutely lovely.
I stayed with my son and a rescued dog who can't socialise with other dogs however they understood exactly where my dog's behaviours came from and helped our stay to be great. I really appreciate it.」

「Andrew our host went above and beyond when we had a big ferry delay, staying up to let us in very late. Much appreciated, breakfasts were awesome and stunning gardens, great suggestions with places to visit.」
“Shurinji”-means a garden to cherish. Designed and created by Susan and Patrick Edmonds fourteen years ago from 3 and a half acres of bare land.
Shurinji lives up to its Japanese inspired name with many cherry trees, a man-made lake bounded with graceful weeping willows, water lilies and many bridges, (a tribute to the famous Monet inspired garden in Japan) with strategically placed statues and a gazebo with roses and wisteria growing over the roof. The topiaries continue the theme as you wander along walkways with surprises at every turn.
Many guests remark on how peaceful the property is.
We are an animal sanctuary of sorts. Expect dogs, cats, pigeons, chickens and ducks on the property. All are rescues or progeny of rescues. If you are allergic to pet hair or afraid of animals then this is probably not the property for you. If you love animals then this is definitely the place for you.
Penny and Andrew live onsite. We are both very social people and enjoy helping our guests get the best experience from their stay in Whanganui. Andrew is the cook and will prepare anything locally available for breakfast as requested.
We are 5 km from the city centre. You can be parked in the main street in 10 minutes. We will delight in helping you find places to visit once we get to know you and your interests.
