The Old Dairy Factory is an original butter making facility. Opened in 1897, by a co-operative of local Scandinavian farmers! They used to be all over New Zealand. All made of local timbers and with state-of-the-art technology, for the late Victorians. Power was from the waterwheel (belts and pulleys) or from the 8Hp coal-fired steam engine. These days it has all been modernized, but retains its unique character as a family home and the No1 Live Music Venue in New Zealand!

Hello, I am a New Zealand school teacher, on a break from the classroom, doing restoration on this historic building, The Old Dairy Factory. I live here with my family of four children, husband and parents, where we look after each other in this friendly village.

The little village of Norsewood is friendly and welcoming. With only 350 residents, it still has: A Pub (that does great food), A Café (with great coffee), A Museum (all about the early settlers), A Famous Norsewear Shop (opposite the Old Dairy Factory), which sells the world class knitwear, A Wetlands (called the Wop Wops), with eels over 100 years old! (which you can feed). If you are a keen tramper (walker), you can drive the the Ruahine's (within minutes and do the DOC walks!)
